Hell holes as perspective.

The unreality of American leftist politics is pathetic. For the entire period of the Soviet Union it was largely a "kicking and screaming" proposition to get the left to recognize that there was like, something er . . . disturbing about communist regimes. Vast networks of concentration camps, arbitrary arrest, judicial murder, famine, assassination, that sort of thing.

And we haven't even mentioned the really bad stuff.

Ho hum.

The source shows the pitiless nature of N. Korea. We really all need to keep these kinds of Latrine Nations™ in mind when we unsheathe the knives to take on instances of American depravity such as genetically modified food or muted Middle American disdain for the ecstatic celebration of homosexuality. (If Walt Disney were still producing the old cartoons, one shudders to imagine who would be Bugs Bunny's new "pal.")

Young men ought to be lined up to take their turn as troops of the line in the defense of something that is unique and precious. Instead, our politicians are endlessly embroiled in major political battles with people who are delirious with joy that they can foul their own nest in any small way.

America has been spared the awful losses that other nations have suffered throughout history. However, this wonderful exemption we've enjoyed seems to have bred a fatal inability to understand pure evil and to summon the will to crush it when revealed.

Today, therefore, there is no gnat bite that is not litigated or minor personal failing that isn't magnified into near conclusive proof of one's servitude to the Evil One. What luxury!

It's possibly a pricey luxury, however, and the price ultimately to be paid for fecklessness may be beyond all imagining.

Update 9/9/05:

The Museum of Left-Wing Lunacy helpfully provides this quote of Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders:

"Let's get rid of all the economic (expletive) this country represents! Bring it on, I hope the Muslims win!"
You have heard of The Pretenders, haven't you?

Ms. Hynde need not stand in line behind any other to advance her claim to Advanced Spiritual Sear™ status. After all, there are the indisputable facts that she (1) supports PETA and ending animal cruelty and (2) has lost two fellow band members to drug overdoses in one year! Talk about a claim to moral authority! Why do we not turn to our 26-year-olds more often for guidance?

Whether, however, she understands that she stands on the shoulders of giants, and benefits, handsomely, it is presumed, from the "economic (expletive)" that so distresses her is not as clear as her spiritual perfection.

Ditto for her understanding of what a victory for Muslim obscurantism would mean for her fellow citizens, let alone herself. Or are reports of Pakistani and Iranian female punk rocker bands being suppressed by Karl Rove too? Is there no limit to how low this man will stoop?!

The Colonel is the first to sneer at backwardness anywhere. However, when even the gooneybird Muslims can correctly point out a certain vileness of our own, one must, alas, concede the point.

It's a vileness that is rooted in the rejection of the moral underpinning of capitalism not in capitalism itself. This is an idea instantaneously rejected by the minds of the Left just as an actual chord would be rejcted by Ms. Hynde's guitar.
