Other realities.

Westerners accustomed to somewhat rational government and a highly educated citizenry easily forget that ethnicity brings with it definite sets of values. The execrable doctrine of multiculturalism, of course, would have us all believe the fairy tale that we (citizens, immigrants) are all plain vanilla people committed to the Western style of organizing society. This is not the case, of course, as Mr. Sailer makes clear:i

Thus, the world's refugees tend to come from failed states like Somalia and Yugoslavia that have been torn apart by battling ethnic clans. These refugees tend to gravitate towardhomogeneouss northern regions like Sweden and Lewiston, Maine, where they can exploit the high levels of welfare offered by compassionate citizenries who didn't anticipate the refugees' Hobbesian worldview.

Salter points out that ethnic mafias especially flourish when totalitarian regimes collapse, as in the Soviet Union and Albania. Totalitarian regimes destroyed most of the non-family associations of civil society (such as corporations, labor unions, and political parties). The form of organization that survives is the basic biological one of kinship.

All this suggests that we ought to be preparing for the some unwanted side-effects of liberating Iraq.

For instance, it's likely that new and even more virulent refugee mafias will emerge out of Iraq's countless ethnic groups.

"Godfather Part XVII: Ethnic Mobs On The Rise," Steve Sailer, Vdare, 3/9/03.

While we're addressing ethnic realities, it's also instructive to take a look at racial differences in crime, for which see, "Mapping The Unmentionable: Race And Crime," Steve Sailer, Vdare, 2/13/05. Here's choice quote from Mr. Sailer's conversation with a Russian immigrant on why American journalists fail to mention obvious racial patterns:

Vladimir (audibly relieved): "You mean, [such a journalist is a] hypocrite?"

Me: "Yeah, exactly. It would hurt his career to write for the public what he thinks in his private life."

Vladimir: "Thank God!"

Me: "Huh?"

Vladimir: "Hypocrite I understand. I grow up in Soviet Union. Lying to save your job, that's life. No, I was very worried smart people in America weren't hypocrites. You know, this country is supposed to be land of free, home of brave. I was scared that smart Americans weren't hypocrites, but instead were hallucinating. I am very happy to hear they're just hypocrites. Hypocrisy much less scary than mass hallucination."
