A consummation devoutly to be wished.

The Colonel has not followed the recent efforts to save Tookie Williams from execution. However, the following points made by Jeff Jacoby pretty much extinguished the Colonel's curiosity about the case and his desire to see Williams continue to steal oxygen much past Tuesday next:

  • Horrific death for each of Williams's four victims (shotgun blast).
  • Williams's amusement at their suffering: "You should have heard the way [Albert Owens] sounded when I shot him," he bragged with gurgling sound effects and hysterical laughter.
  • Cofounder of Crips street gang in 1971 that unleashed gang violence that "destroyed thousands of lives and left countless other victims scarred by rape, assault, and armed robbery."
  • Bogus claim to have reformed.
  • No admission of guilt or expression of remorse.
  • Adamant refusal to reveal anything to the police about the Crips or other killers.
  • Continued instigation of gang activity even though incarcerated.
As The Greaseman would, and probably does, say, "AMF."

"Misplaced sympathy for killers." By Jeff Jacoby, Boston Globe, 12/7/05.
