Teddy Roosevelt on immigrants and English.

The Original Gobbleblog, 2/21/06.

We wonder how many minutes TR would have tolerated the current border situation in the south.

We suspect that his perspective would have been pure, undistilled nationalism as opposed to the trendy hanky wringing over what the U.N. General Assembly, New Haven, or Vincente Fox might think.

Like Algore, we're struggling here for the right transportational imagery that's so often used. Let's see . . . driver and the car you arrived in . . .no. Passenger and the train you arrived on? Nope.

Hmmm . . . . It's not coming to us, but we think TR would have gone for that colorful but elusive image if anyone had criticized his decision to seal the borders to illegal entrants.

You know the one I mean.
