Guard the Borders Mar 05 07: The Untold Story of Border Patrol Agent Gary Brugman.

Heidi reprints a story of a prosecution of a Border Patrol agent involving aggressive recruiting of a deported Mexican to testify against the agent.
A scandalous, but creative twist to this prosecution was that the {U.S. Attorney] also brought a convicted and incarcerated drug smuggler from his prison cell to testify against Agent Brugman. A drug smuggler who Agent Burgman himself had captured six weeks after the incident for which he was being prosecuted. Once again, there had been no previous accusation of any civil rights violation. Now however, the convicted drug smuggler conveniently offered supporting testimony to the prosecution’s false accusation that Gary Brugman was a rogue agent and a criminal.
The reprint doesn't give any details about the charges against Agent Brugman but it is disturbing for what it reveals about a U.S. prosecutor's willingness (eagerness?) to work with Mexican officials and people who are the natural target of the Border Patrol.

The Colonel wonders about officials whose most delicate and precious sympathies seem so unrelated to the task of aggressive border enforcement. WHEN we get the border under control by some bad ass USBP enforcers maybe THEN we can get all squirrelly about the human rights of illegal immigrants and drug smugglers.

For crying out loud, what we now do is beg people to come over here to get free medical care and have babies who become automatic citizens once born on U.S. soil. Millions of illegals flood into the country in violation of our laws. What's with a U.S. Attorney and President Bush that they get wrapped around the axle over some God damn foreigners one or two people who get crosswise with our guys? We get all schizofeeble when we encounter a situation that has mixed U.S. interests and alien interests. The automatic response is not "U.S.A. first, last and always." No. It's "It's so important to bear in mind all the disparate interests and values. Please pass me the Kleenex."

So now it's aggressive prosecution of our border agents. What's next? OSHA-approved air-conditioned tunnels under the border?

How about, instead . . . uh . . . like . . . "____ 'em if they can't take a joke"?
