Just us thinkers.

Dr. Sanity has an interesting discussion of post-modern liberal rejection of rationalism and the phenomenon of secular faith.
Have you ever wondered why the political left is so relentlessly hostile to Christianity and Judaism? The answer is simple—they are in competition with these religions for the hearts of the people. The ideology of the left has evolved into a religion that is essentially even more fundamental (and certainly more fanatical) than either Christianity or Judaism--both of which had their more toxic elements blunted by the rationality of the Enlightenment. Interestingly, the left regularly makes common cause with a third religion, sharing with Islam a fundamentally postmodern view of both metaphysics and epistemology.
Some of the liberal thinking I encounter involves the most volcanic expressions of anger and a touching faith in the goodness of leftwing politicians whose intentions are of the purest sort. Debate is absolutely foreclosed. The president is none other than George Beelzebubba Bush.

Even milder liberals seem drawn like bees to honey to the proposition that Christians are guilty of an unacceptable "fundamentalism" in their thinking. Christians' voting their interests is a manifestation of theocracy, while liberals' voting their interests is sweet reason itself. No "fundamentalism" here.

Just us thinkers.
