A failed civilization.

Another overarching theme is the incapacity of Muslim societies to reconcile themselves to the matrix of creativity and freedom that powers the Western world —- the engine of technological and material prosperity. They look upon Western energy and see only decadence and spiritual sterility, things that are unquestionably there —- I have written of them frequently. But to mistake the waste products of freedom for freedom itself is a miscalculation of shattering proportions. It is precisely that miscalculation which lies at the heart of Muslim folly, and Muslim frustration, and rage.

A society with freedom of speech and freedom of the press will always appear more decadent then a society living under the rule of an oppressive state. Islamic fundamentalists would have you believe that it is Western society that propagates decadent behavior and at the same time they look the other way while their women are gang-rapped, detainees are kicked in the head until comatose, and children are executed for consuming alcohol. The truth is, that state control does not alter human behavior. Iran has the worst heroin problem in the world despite it’s strict Sharia courts. Would we have big brother telling you what you can and cannot say or publish in exchange for the false perception of a clean society?
