So simple a caveman could do it.

Second, make sure the [second and now also failed "comprehensive" immigration reform] bill contains the provisions of the Isakson Rule (proposed by Sen. Johnny Isakson, R., Ga.) that no other immigration reform programs can be implemented until the border is secure.
So how hard is this to grasp?

Answer: not hard at all.

But, no, Mr. George W. Bush had to act like he couldn't close the border until EVERY OTHER human and economic problem associated with illegal AND legal immigration is dealt with at the same time as border closure.

See Ann Coulter's witty take on this here.

Blessings upon Rep. Isakson for having the wit to come up with the obviously correct approach -- i.e., the approach that the American people, almost to a man, knew was the right approach.

To advocate the opposite approach is to assume the mantle of Moulder or Boulder in the execrable "X Files," a TV epic famous for pointless and inconclusive stories. That was what Mr. Bush's full-court press was about. Something pointless and inconclusive with a motivation so obscured, so obscure, and so recondite that even Larry King was left scratching his head.
