Yusuf Qaradawi on female mutilation . . . and an experiment.

This from the Great Imam, Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, Muslim spokesman and "one of the most authoritative Muslim scholars in the world," on the practice of having ignorant local women cutting up young girls with razor blades and kitchen knives under non-sterile conditions: [1]
“Actually, Muslim countries differ over the issue of female circumcision… I personally support this under the current circumstances in the modern world. But whoever chooses not to do it is not considered to have committed a sin for it is mainly meant to dignify women as held by scholars.”

Hard left and pro-Islamist London Mayor Ken Livingstone, has called Qaradawi "one of the most authoritative Muslim scholars in the world" and "one of the Muslim scholars who has done most to combat socially regressive interpretations of Islam on issues like women’s rights and relations with other religions."[3]

Apparently — though I could be wrong here — personally supporting the mutilation of the genitals of little girls and the life-long denial to women of any kind of sexual pleasure[4] — not to mention ignoring the risk of infection and consequent sterility — is an example of how Qaradawi combats "socially regressive interpretations of Islam on issues like women’s rights."

God help Muslim women if this prime specimen of Fuligo septica jihadi barbatus were to come out in favor of "socially regressive interpretations of Islam" regarding women.

Qaradawi is a Muslim of great eminence because Livingstone's has told us so and because we know he presided over the annual meeting of the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) in 2004,[5] some big-deal European conference on subjects near and dear to Muslims.[6] Scimitar sharpening, beheading techniques, and workshops on issuing fatwas for un-Islmanic behavior on the polar ice caps, according to one report.

So, here's an experiment. If Qaradawi thinks it dignifies women to have their clitorises cut out of their bodies, let him lead the way by having the tip of his penis cut off to show how much it dignifies him as a man. And carry the torch to the nations of Islam to persuade Muslim men to do the same to themselves and to their sons. If that idea doesn't appeal to him and them, why not just go the other way and say, uh, wait, Everyone is entitled to the pleasure that is theirs by the grace of God and his divine creation? How hard is that?

The very concept of the mutilation of girls and destruction of their lives as women is absurd and base. Mine is a suggestion that Islam move in a humane direction. But . . . quickly now. What are the chances of the sheikhs, imams, mullahs, ayatollahs, ulema, muftis, qadis, or caliphs changing Islam in this insignificant way, in a way that would not be seen as a capitulation to Christianity or the West but as an example of the capacity of wise, compassionate, merciful Islam to rectify past abuses?

Or are Muslims, even on "small" points, just going to stay (sic) stuck on stupid?

[1] Would this be a good time to bring up how much the Western world owes to Muslim advances in medicine? I always want to get that in when I can. Our great debt.

[4] I suppose there is somewhere an imamical (rhymes with "comical") argument that there is some kind of residual sexual pleasure still available to women. Or do they even bother?

[6] The ECFR thus can be held fully accountable for, and considered in complete agreement with, his views. Along with Livingstone. That's how it works, doesn't it? If I sponsor a conference at which there appears a legal scholar with constitutional views congenial to my own but who happens, say, to argue that 9/11 was planned and executed by George Bush, do I get to say that that scholar's worthy of our honor, respect, and serious consideration?

I don't but, that isn't how it works in Muslim and hard left circles. As long as you are on point according to their narrow agenda you get a free pass on every other asinine idea that dribbles out of your brain. There is no shame in these people, by which I mean Ken Livingstone and the distinctly un-European European Council for Fatwa and Research.

The cowardice, complicity, and hypocrisy of Western feminism on this issue is a topic for another post.
