People are walking on eggs around this issue and its unacceptable. Obama is running for President of the United States, not President of Americans of African descent only. Right now he is squeaking by in the primaries that only the democrats are voting in. How do you think he’ll do in the general elections when everyone is voting? Right now he is garnering 90% of the Black vote. Do you think all those people are voting for him because they agree with him on issues? That would be nothing short of a miracle for that many people to have such similar views. Or do you think they are voting for him because he is half white?Obama is not stepping up to the plate. Not by a long shot. His dismay at the "undispelled" race issue is grossly disingenuous.
Obama’s lack of addressing this issue is NOT presidential. A real leader would stand up and address this issue by telling his followers to stand down. He would tell them there will not be trouble at the Democratic National Convention. He would tell them that he will rise or fall on his own merits, not because of whichever race he is associated with. He would distance himself from the many people around him who are divisive characters and associate with those who are inclusive.
How does he think the issue of race will ever be dispelled unless all politicians, including himself, take it upon themselves to speak the honest to gosh truth about race (and culture) in this country. All we ever get is utter swill on these issues. Geraldine Ferraro had the courage to state an obvious truth, one that every American knows for a fact is a truth.
Let's have it out on black-on-white and black-on-black crime; the blessings of our common European heritage; how unbelievably lucky blacks are to be living in America today; the deplorable culture of the black underclass; black educational achievement (D.C.); affirmative action; the destruction of the black family by the welfare state so beloved by leftists, socialists and communists; the disgusting Nation of Islam; the dead end that Islam (real or bogus) is for blacks; and the destruction of America's cities wherever the black underclass has settled. Inter fisking alia.
That would do for a start. I've had it up to here with sanctimony, hypocrisy, and the aforementioned swill.

Interesting article. I am more skeptical of Obama's ability as a candidate. And I believe the real Obama supports and shares Farrakhan's ideas and beliefs.
Race is only a sensitive subject for some people. Blacks use it as a weapon and to justify their failings. The article called for a dialog on black-on-White as well as black-on-black crime. It won't happen. If it did blacks would somehow justify black-on-White crime.
Most of Obama's supporters have voted for him because he's black. That's it. He has no leadership ability nor experience. It's just the novelty of his campaign that has attracted attention.
The last few days have resulted in one giant turning over of a rock. Obama absolutely agrees with everything that Wright has disgorged. If Wright was this bad in public one can only shudder at what he must have been saying in private.
Alas, you’re right that that dialogue won’t happen and if by accident it did it would involve the same shucking and jiving that we’ve just now seen. Newsweek's Lisa Miller reports that
"Newsweek phoned at least two dozen of the country’s most prominent and thoughtful African-American scholars and pastors, representing a wide range of denominations and points of view. Not one person would say that Wright had crossed any kind of significant line." (Emphasis added.)
H/t James Taranto in his Best of the Web for today (3/19/08)
A statement by Rev. John H. Thomas, general minister and president of Wright’s denomination, the United Church of Christ, contains this:
"Where is the real obscenity here [U.S. murderous frenzy in Iraq]? True patriotism requires a degree of self-criticism, even self-judgment that may not always be easy or genteel." (Best of the Web)
Of course, what he means by “self-criticism” or “self-judgment” is criticism of whites and such criticism need never be “easy or genteel.” It’s open season on |strike|the most strained, the most forced "discovery" of|/strike| eternal, monstrous white perfidy. But let there be anything like that come from the mouth of a white person and it's Defcon 1.
Excellent point that ["You can never atone!"] blacks use this as an offensive weapon. Sean Hannity today played excerpts of another black preacher friend going on about "house niggers" and Obama's white trash mother. Safe harbor there. Absolute free pass there. Try saying like that in some public gathering and the engine of Black Manufactured Outrage will kick into high gear. Try talking about black-on-white crime. Same result.
The eggshell treatment of black behavior and values must be maintained at all costs.
