Former counterintelligence officials describe Israeli intelligence operations in the United States as quite extensive, ranking just below those of China and Russia, and F.B.I. counterintelligence agents have long kept an eye on Israeli spying.[1]This is an odd activity for Israel to engage in here given as Mr. Shane speaks of an ally "as close as Israel." Especially odd given that Chinese spying in America is massive and, I'm guessing, Russia's is not much different from the full court press during Soviet times.
"Quite extensive" to say the least.
All nations spy on each other, so let us not be too virginal here. So, it's the apparent scale of Israel's effort that is odd.
