The inhabitants of Gabčíkovo, a village in south Slovakia, refused to temporarily accept some 500 refugees, who are staying in neighboring Austria, in a local referendum held today."Gabčíkovo rejects 500 refugees in village referendum." By CTK, Prague Post, 8/2/15.Almost 97 percent of the voters were against the refugees' stay in their village.
However, the Slovak Interior Ministry announced that it was not obliged to follow the referendum results.
