Blinding, death star-level of irony.

Well, Iran needs to get out of Syria. They have no business there. There’s no reason for them to be there. There’s been Iranian influence there for a long time. Iranian forces, Iranian militias must leave the country.[1]
~ Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State.

I get to read SANA [ Syrian News ] found from your side column. Also a good video history of Syria from about 1960 popped up.

One of the things that strikes one when delving into the underlying realities of Syria is how long the West has wanted to control Syria. I'm far from well read on that. It's hard enough getting a handle on what's happened there post 2011. There's supposed to be some great unspoken, urgent need for Qatar and/or Saudi Arabia to get a compliant Syrian government to let them run a gas or oil pipeline through Syria but I find that unconvincing. Saudi Arabia's fear and hatred of Iran seems to drive their agenda in Syria and I see U.S. involvement in Syria simply as our eternal passion to do as our Israeli masters command. Israel wants lots of small, weak, compliant statelets for neighbors and currently it's most concerned to "neutralize" Iran, its most formidable (alleged) foe. Iran is Israel's mortal enemy just as Russia is supposed to be ours. It's not clear why but I'm sure the Israelis want us to attack Iran and maintain hostile relations with Russia forever. That makes a lot more sense than any nonsense about pipelines, which neither SA nor Qatar need. They make billions as it is.
