But while little useful can be said about the murders themselves, the rush to narrative of our dishonest and increasingly desperate leftist media does have to be addressed. The Left—which has been unable to discover any common feature uniting acts of Islamist violence worldwide—nonetheless instantly noticed a bridge between the Tucson shooting and its own political opponents.I suppose this is just life. History is full of examples of excessive focus on certain events while other more important things are ignored.
The tens of thousands of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in the field against distant enemies while our southern borders are wide open to invasion of millions of foreigners is another puzzling disparity.
The same for the actions of the FBI back in the 1990s. It was able to track down – in Africa – the terrorists who bombed our embassies there but it couldn't find out where Vince Foster spent the hours between noon and dusk within only a few miles of FBI HQ.
The military encirclement of and attack on a small religious community in Waco is another one of these. And let's not forget the inept Ken Starr's bizarre focus on Clinton's sexual activities at the expense of any kind of an investigation of the hundreds of Republican FBI files that oddly ended up in the White House and other more serious oddities of the Clinton presidency.
Same for the Craig Spence call boy scandal that "shook" Washington, allegedly involving high-level civilian and military officials. Now there's a scandal that never happened! It was front-page stuff on the Washington Times for a week or so and then it just went away.
Similarly, FBI Director Mueller ominously stated that the internet provided much greater opportunity for people like Loughner to be exposed to "hate speech." You'd think the press at this press conference would be alert to bizarre statements implicating the First Amendment but not one reporter picked up on it.
Muslims are imported by the ton into Sweden and if a "person of Swedish origin" objects to this he or she's guilty of "hate speech."
I can't tie these all together with any Grand Unifying Theory but they all strike me as truly bizarre disparities of focus or failure to focus. It feels like we live in times brilliantly described in Catch 22 by Joseph Heller when Yosarian witnesses another GI murder a fellow American by throwing him out the window. The MPs race to this upper floor, burst in, and arrest . . . Yosarian . . . for being AWOL.

Klavan's analysis of the Left not recognizing Islamist interconnections but instantly attributing all manner of Tucson evil to Conservatives -- is brilliant.

It is indeed. I like that fellow. I can't recall reading anything by him before but will look for him in the future.
