Orwell quote: “In times of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act”

Mark Twain >> In the beginning of change the patriot is scarce, brave, hated and scorned. When his cause sudcceds the timid join him for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

Speaking of Twain, he said something a lot like what Orwell said: always tell the truth. It will gratify some and astound the rest.

For interest I studied up on Andrew Jackson ] >> I never whipped a slave or killed a Mexican I din't admire <<.
I think Mark Twain next.
My first serious boyhood novels were Mark Twain ' Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer.
By the time I was about 15 someone guided me to George Orwell. First up was Animal Farm and I loved the whole thing without having any idea of its higher level.
Then I think > Down and out in Paris and London< and I am sure it hasd a serious effect, I was about 16 and in a relatively narrow middle class family. paul scott

Mr. Scott, I too had an early interest in Orwell and remember DAOILAP. I read Homage to Catalonia as well but didn't understand it.

For some reason I read a book of Bernard Shaw's musical criticism. I found them entertaining for some strange reason. I doubt I would now.
