The stark truth about American elections.

Unless a candidate is a billionaire, it is impossible for him to run unless he has large contributors intent on having their interests served.

This means that the interests of large campaign contributors come first. They are the ones who originate bills and control the outcomes with lobbying. We also know that every regulatory agency is captured by the group that is being regulated. For example, the Covid protocols and “vaccine” mandates proved that the NIH, CDC, and FDA are marketing agents for Big Pharma, not protecters of the public’s health. Why do you think that America alone is always at war? It is because of profits for the armaments corporations. Washington has institutionalized three formidable enemies–Russia, China, and Iran -- and that guarantees the budget and power of the military/security complex.

Americans cannot govern themselves because an oligarchy governs through campaign contributions. A crazed, indeed one could say treasonous, US Supreme Court destroyed all accountability of government to the people in 2010 with its Citizens United ruling that legalized the private purchase of government by removing limits on campaign contributions in the name of free speech, a ruling that turned corporations into people.

Time to stop pretending.

The Chinese philosopher Confucius (c. 551 – c. 479 BC) observed a while ago that the beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names.

Known as the doctrine of the rectification of names, it held that if people can't agree on the meaning of words it's unlikely that relations between people can be harmonious or that sound government policy can be made. Think of the words "wife," "husband," "man," "woman," "marriage," "climate change," "racism," "affirmative action," "education," "elections," "constitution," "Russian expansionism," and "democracy" as they are used now and you can't help noticing that their meanings are, shall we say, a bit rubbery.

"Marriage" seems to mean something not much different from "shacking up" in some quarters and good luck figuring out what "natural born citizen" means. (Someone should ask that constitutional law professor, Barack Obongo, about that latter term.) "Enumerated powers" now means "unenumerated powers" and "international border" now means "superhighway." "Department of Homeland Security" is pregnant with meaning. It's just that I don't know what that meaning is. Nothing to do with "security" apparently.

I hate to think what "love" entails and seeing as how this is a family site I won't go into detail on that.

The good news is that "clown," "vicious, corrupt political class," "congressional whore," "sedition," and "treason" are terms that I find to be yet crystal clear, but maybe that's just me.

It's a puzzle it is, Ollie.

Here's a modern take on dealing with, um, lack of precision in "our" thinking:

For the past two years I can only encapsulate the entire social, political and socioeconomic dynamic that surrounds us by saying we are living in an era of great pretending. Why? Because nothing else adequately explains it.

A recession is no longer two negative quarters of economic growth. Elections are no longer defined by votes cast, but by ballots counted. Meanwhile, women are claimed to have penises and people will argue -strenuously and with commitment- that men can give birth to babies.

Simultaneously, vaccines are no longer about medicines to avoid viruses, and Americans have some moral obligation to fund the administrative salaries, pensions and expense accounts for a nation of European politicians, in a country that few taxpayers could find on a map.

We must pretend the occupant of the oval office is not a dementia patient, at the same time we must pretend the Dept of Homeland Security and FBI is not telling online speech platforms that identifying the dementia patient, as a dementia patient, means you are a domestic violent extremist. The absurdity of the pretenses are off-the-charts.

When it becomes so easy to deconstruct the madness simply by pointing out the reality, eventually anyone can do it. In an era of great pretending, when you speak factual and [plain] truth, people thirsting will come for the sanity. The revolution you see today had to start at the top because the people – the voters – were unwilling to spark revolutionary change. Power then imposition, through the institutions and the bureaucracies onto the population. Enabled by the constraints on bureaucratic power being unenforced and the limitations on legislative authority being ignored. Elections thought to reflect the will of the people instead force on the people the will of the elected.^[1]

The part about voters being unwilling to spark revolutionary change is right. I've long decried European voters who time after time forego opportunities to empower patriotic parties. Canada and California had a chance to get rid of their resident zealots but voted to retain them. The U.S. is no different. We tolerate buffoons, grifters, and the controlling influence of the billionaire class why? Soros should dictate who is a proper prosecutor? Dark money and Zuckerbucks should slosh over the electoral landscape to further whose agenda? A lot, if not all of that is understandable in light of our vast parasitic underclass but still.

Mencken said every once in a while "[e]very normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands [and] hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." Now would be good. All peaceful like, of course.

No, I am not making this up.

Not particularly crazy about having your taxes support a horrific, brainless war, Hans? Too bad, señor. Your government wants all that killing, destruction, and misery that entails because it completely forgot about the suffering, waste and horror of WWI and WWII and lessons to be learned therefrom by, say, oh, someone above the age of seven.

But wait! There's more. That cabal of moronic lefties and cross-dressers wants a guaranteed arduous, unpleasant, winter of little or no energy for you and yours. And it couldn't care less about you or your opinions. It's telling you that straight out, to your face. You being part of the sovereign people and all.

Back from the Covid war games.

Three weeks ago tomorrow I started to become extremely low energy and that rapidly progressed to having extremely unpleasant muscle aches in my back. Fortunately, heavy use of ibuprofen allowed me to sleep but I also lost all appetite and dropped nine pounds just from not wanting to eat. Coffee, normally a mainstay of my routine at all hours, tasted like something out of a mud puddle after a rain.

I started to feel out of the woods by last Saturday and have had only mild lethargy at times since and a much better appetite to boot.

No vaccine for the Colonel but I'm glad for that. All told it amounted to a bad case of something flu-like but not much in the way of nasal or lung congestion. I do think I had some mild bronchitis but that's clearing up nicely.

More than you wanted to know, I'm sure. Look for more enlightened plagiarism from me as always.

A bit of perspective on January 6.

The truth is that at this point, we have no idea how many US deaths were actually due to the coronavirus because of the perverse financial incentives provided by HHS to hospitals and medical care providers, and grossly inappropriate use of PCR assays. The official mortality count attributed to the virus by the HHS is among the highest in the world. Many emerging economies have population adjusted mortality rates which are aligned with the Scott Atlas scenario. You see the same thing with the gun controllers. A sparrow has fallen in the forests. Therefore, a massive official assault on one of the bedrock principles of our constitutional republic is in order.

Compare this approach to the thinking on the role of the automobile in the U.S. Tens of thousands or deaths result each year from the operation of automobiles on public roads but no moron takes the position that that risk of death is not outweighed by the obvious benefits of our all having access to cheap and overwhelmingly safe automobile transportation.

No. With Covid-19 it is and was all about narratives, and "narrative" is just a genteel way of saying "stinking propaganda." As a nation we did untold damage to ourselves by accepting the lies and maneuverings of these disgraceful and dishonest human beings. On balance we showed that as a nation we are incapable of honest intellectual inquiry and debate. Search your memory banks and you'll recall similar areas of public policy that are rife with similar denial and distortion.

In what school of statescraft is it considered wise to engage in pointless, reckless, murderous foreign military adventures back to freaking back and dumping $40B on on the bizarre state of Ukraine with no more than an afternoon of consideration in the Congress? Money for a wall on the southern border? So difficult, my fellow citizens. Keep out foreign job thieves and welfare parasites? So many human rights complications. So sad. Not run up the debt by $40B? You're joking, right?

But training and arming Ukrainian troops right on the Russian border? Makes perfect sense. Our lives depend on it.

[In 1977] When Alfred Kahn, Jimmy Carter's chief inflation fighter, used the politically taboo word ''depression'' in a statement from the White House, the economist was pounced upon by assorted communicators and soothing-sayers; as a result, the hapless but happy man pledged to substitute the word ''banana'' for ''depression'' in any future economic message.

That's a quote from a very droll 1982 article by William Safire in The New York Times."

I found it in a great piece by Michael Every.^[1]

Safire was a brilliant commentator on language. Up there with Mark Twain, H.L. Mencken, George Orwell, and Joe Sobran. One can never tire of the bafflegab, horse feathers, flapdoodle, and linguistic dogs' breakfasts that are served up by the people who play at being "leaders," "intellectuals," or "statesmen." I mean never.

Matters have progressed considerable like since 1982 and today we witness the phenomenon of terms like "lactaters," "chest feeders," "birthing persons," "progressivism," "husbands," "women's health," "elections," "rules-based international order," "New World Order," "social justice," "scrimination," "vaccine," "horse paste," "white supremacy," "new variant," and "democracy" being uttered with a straight face, if not a face contorted by rage.

Well, I've written about Confucius's warning about the rectification of names. In short, if you can't use precise language to describe what is happening in the kingdom don't expect public policy to be formulated that deals with real problems.

"Asylum" and "refugee" in our own time are words that deftly disguise the actual invasion of the Western world by third-world primitives -- "primitive" in the sense of "honor killing," FGM, violent, supremacist, tribal religion, and sacrificing chickens outside the courthouse, in case you were wondering -- leading to the dispossession and impoverishment of white people in the countries that they founded and built.

So it's deteriorated since 1982. But, political speech has always been murderous and ghastly really. Nothing new under the sun and all that. As Orwell said, it's "designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind." Russia engaged in "unprovoked aggression" in Ukraine but the U.S. engaged in -- and engages in -- "regime change" in Syria. It did something in Serbia back when that killed a lot of people and destroyed a lot of stuff but it sure wasn't murder or aggressive war in the, oh, Nuremberg sense. Hell no.
