It's not about analyzing or talking any more, it's about killing so many of our enemies that they do not dare to attack us. Col. Ghaddafi call your office.

This is just what the doctor ordered and the pressure on other of our enemies must be long-term, relentless and horrific. It's a brutal and archaic concept we grant you. And majestically sophisticated for its simplicity. At some point the dregs of the world need to understand that the West is through with discussion and compromise. God bless George Bush for recognizing this.

An interesting post by Miss Mabrouk of Egypt that actually shows healthy internal ferment about entirely home-grown abuses in Islamic society.

Especially encouraging is this:

"The mullahs think they are above the law," said Asma Jehanghir, chairwoman of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, a nongovernment agency. "We have to break this wall of silence."

Free speech and the hatred of it.

Last month, another Istanbul court opened a case against Orhan Pamuk the internationally acclaimed Turkish author. He is due to appear in court on December 16 on charges of insulting Turkey's national dignity by telling a Swiss newspaper that one million Armenians and 30,000 Kurds had been killed in Turkey and that nobody dared to say so.

Is it not crystal clear that restrictions on speech are road spikes on the Highway to Truth? (Yes, we've had too much coffee today and we are a little wired.)

Who cares whether "Turkish dignity" is insulted? The only questions to ask are, "Is what he said true?" and "Did he intend it as an immediate incitement to violence?"

If what is said is not true, free speech has served its purpose in publicizing the opinions and names of people whose opinions are worthless. If it is true, it becomes part of the "operative facts" of that country, for good or ill, with appropriate consequences to follow on. Since the killings did take place, the emphasis ought, for example, to be on what led to the killings and who were responsible for them. Energy is better expended there rather than in resorting to absurd measures of suppression, such as purporting to defend Turkish "dignity." The killings are what should be seen as what "insulted" that dignity or made Turkey look bad, not that courageous man pointing out the obvious fact of the killings.

True speech thus should lead to salutary corrective.

Egyptian University of Nablus students threw a professor out of a second-story window for arguing that Islam developed gradually rather than out of the mouth of Mohammed. Khomeini sentenced a non-Iranian Salman Rushdie to death for unflattering things he wrote about Mohammed. Malaysian women are prosecuted for preaching Christianity. Christians are stabbed in Pakistan. These actions, and millions like them, keep Islam mired in the Samsara Swamps that draw back down into the ooze anyone with an idea that might lead to the betterment of all.

And, as we have harped incessantly, they show the painful insecurity of Muslims who simply cannot bear the least bit of head-to-head competition with their fastidleinneutral religion.

And not just on the issue of Islamic amelioration. We all have a huge stake in keeping public debate raw, vigorous, robust, and exuberant. As one wise man or woman said, free speech is good because it helps identify the crazies. The Colonel's paraphrase of another wise person is that the remedy for slime speech is more slime speech. The same sentiment exactly.

And, therefore, the only valid concerns are these:

1. Is the speech true?
2. Is it intended as an immediate incitement to violence?

Whether someone is offended, insulted, or hurt is irrelevant and anyone who whines thus is just simply pathetic. There are a lot of people the Colonel thinks would be better off drifting in an inner tube in the Roaring Forties. Yet, unfortunately, they are still here and continue to say stuff about his country, culture and cherished beliefs that, according to the strict dictates of Divine Justice, warrant horse whipping, at a minimum.

But, bottom line, we don't care a fig about what historical illiterates say and neither should anyone with the least backbone care what is said about their cherished idols.

Weak people need to have it pointed out to them that no one cares whether they are offended, that offense taken is irrelevant in the realm of public debate, and that their real problem is their terror at being unable to refute an attack on the merits. Since Muslims are on such shaky ground, and know it, of course they have to react with blind violence to silence the competition.

The author of our source reports on the discovery of "extreme racist and paramilitary views" on a website "linked to" the City of Edinburgh Universities Officer Training Corps.

One example of a racist statement cited is this:

One [cadet] is said to have written that he is tired of "Abdul foreigner" coming to the university seeking changes in tradition and another suggests that overseas students should live as locals do or return to their own countries. Shocked [oh, sure] UOTC leaders and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) have now launched investigations to find out who is responsible [and gone home at lunch to get clean hankies].

Edinburgh UOTC Adjutant Major Derek Lawson has insisted that "these attitudes will not be tolerated". [Grrr rrrr woof.]

An MoD spokeswoman said anyone sharing such inflammatory views would be weeded out . . . .

So let's parse these statements that evidence racist views, and not just ordinary racist views, mind you, but extreme racist views.

"Abdul foreigner" -- This phrase is on the order of "Freddy foreigner" or "Francois foreigner" or "Fritz foreigner." Abdul, Freddy, etc., are all Christian names regularly in use, none denoting or connoting putrescence, depravity, or a treasonous nature.

Since the writer chose "Abdul" it's clear he drew a connection between "foreigner" and "Middle East" or "Arab" or, possibly, "Islam." This connection can be studied, with definitive resolution to await determination of how many foreigners in Edinburgh or Scotland are in fact in one or more of these loose categories of humans. As all of the European Union and the U.K. are awash in people from these populations or areas, it's almost certain that there are large numbers of foreigners of these kinds visible to the cadet.

That the cadet might have lumped native born people whose parents emigrated to the U.K. with foreigners with no or limited rights to reside in Scotland is certainly unobjectionable as the English have had plenty of experience with even native-born Anglo-Saxons who were panting to betray their country to savage enemies during Cold War times.

For officials to draw the line at legal residents or citizens v. visa-holding foreigners is specious. Mohammad Sidique Khan, London subway killer on his personal little jihad (". . . I am directly responsible for protecting and avenging my Muslim brothers and sisters."), was born in Leeds but felt nothing but contempt for England ("Our religion is Islam, obedience to the one true God Allah . . . ."). Thus, it would be quite accurate to refer to Mr. Khan as a foreigner.

Moreover, it's certainly the question of the day whether other resident Muslim populations in Western countries are willing to integrate themselves fully into and swear political allegiance to countries that does not intend to implement sharia.

Mention to the Colonel Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Mexican, Peruvian, Haitian, Barbadian, or Botswanan immigrants to the U.S. and he will not consider for an instant that these people are not eager to become citizens. Only the minuscule proportion of lunatics and malcontents of those groups would have the equivalent Muslim intention of standing the U.S. A. on its head and turning it from a nation that is dedicated to the rule of law based on common law and civil law precepts into one ruled by the sharia, founded as it is on embarrassment that is the Koran and its incomprehensible or disjointed gloss.

The cadets' resentment at foreigners (or anyone) coming to attend a major institution of higher learning and demanding changes to well-settled traditions is hardly reprehensible or even objectionable. Surely we have escaped the execrable gravitational pull of the 60s where any tradition, any institution, any rational requirement other than the requirement to have fun could be called into question by any featherhead with a guitar and the lyrics to "Blowin' in the Wind."

Being unwilling to live as locals do may be something that the cadet criticizes unfairly though let us not precipitously conclude that "Abdul" merely wishes to wear his keffiyah to class or have his wife dress in the sartorial equivalent to a collapsed man o' war mainsail. (The Colonel hissef would positively refuse to eat haggis, whether boiled, fried, fricasseed, or soaked in chili sauce. Local custom be damned, Sah!)

It could be, as further fair, fearless, fact ferreting might disclose, that this disinclination to fit in with local mores more resembles something more disgusting like. say, the practice of Cubans in Miami devoted to the, uh, religion of Santeria, who sacrifice chickens (leaving mortal remains to rot) outside courthouses to ensure victory in legal battles or Southeast Asians who barbecue goats in bathtubs (in rented quarters).

So we trust that this escalating search for the authors of these eminently sane, fairminded, and defensible thoughts will stop short of the British Ministry of Defence's figuratively groveling at the boots of people who should be grateful to High Heaven for the privilege of walking Edinburgh streets instead of, as we strongly suspect, throwing their weight around.

If it turns out that the foreigner population of Edinburgh is primarily Ukrainian, the miscreant cadets should be forced to crawl from mosque to rifle range to bomb factory to Koran memorization session and do penance.

Unsolicited Yank advice to MoD force planners: This little exercise is a great way to ensure that your officer corps will be built upon individuals who are terrified of speaking their minds. Your cadets are now learning from you that should one wander off into the "England's culture is quite nice but hardly better than any other culture" minefield his or her career is over.

More unsolicited Yank advice to MoD force planners: The Real Problem here is that an official site was used to express personal views. Discipline the lads, say by forcing them to read 50 pages of the Koran, and leave it at that. Now you'll recruit robust thinkers and risk takers who will exercise initiative and bring (yet more) honor and fame to the British armed forces and who know they'll be horribly punished if they use MoD resources to troll for tarts or publish their personal views. While you're at it, assign Major Lawson, 100 pages in the Koran for failing to monitor his web site. No. Wait. That's too horrible.

Yet more unsolicited Yank advice to MoD force planners: Lose the witch hunt. No one needs to be weeded out . . . except maybe the officer who told the MoD spokeswoman to announce that miscreant cadets will be weeded out.

Memo to Ms. McGlynn: Now write a followup story about whether or not there is any basis for the cadets' opinions.

"Offend the Colonel" Contest

The Colonel has long marveled at the inability of the Left and minorities of various hue or heritage to deal honestly with the slightest deviation from their preferred public policies, boodle air drops, or allocation or reduction of special privileges. Nor does the debasement of public discourse on any issue surprise the Colonel any more.

Running through the sewer of public discourse these days is the constant tidal wave of whiners being "dismayed" or "offended" at some particular instance of someone telling the God's own truth about race relations, the lumpenproletariat, the enemies of the United States and the pressing need to kill them, immigration, bilingualism, effective administration of elections, or constitutional law.

An intelligent person makes some perfectly sensible observation of American life backed up by credible facts and instead of addressing the merits of the observation, the debate veers off into the brambles of how some thin-skinned cretin "feels" or might "feel" about the argument rather than focusing whether the observation is true or not.

The whole thing about searching out things to be offended by is a complete hoax and a deliberate obfuscation of the necessary, and often sloppy, search for truth (of which, we are, galactically speaking, the source).

To highlight this obfuscatory intention the Colonel hereby declares that he will pay $100 to each and every person who can deliberately and with malice aforethought (which may be the only forethought some people are capable of) offend . . . the . . . Colonel.

Admittedly the Colonel will be the judge of whether anyone has succeeded in offending him but he is an honest man, even if of dubious heritage, and actual offense achieved will be honestly reported and rewarded.

For the record, the Colonel has his genetic origins in England and Bavaria and it would be accurate to describe him as a "white man." He is a citizen of the U.S.A. and thinks that the civilization that grew up in Europe and certain parts of North America (with very little contributory enrichment by the Colonel but for the occasional camel joke) is vastly superior to any culture most anywhere else in the world.

The Colonel has no particular religious affiliation but is an admirer of certain aspects of Christianity and Buddhism mixed in with an amorphous and not particularly coherent devotion to hedonism and asceticism. Nor will The Colonel pass up any opporutnity to attend religious ceremonies involving (1) naked pagan priestesses leaping over bonfires and (2) consumption of beverages whose manufacture has occasioned very little in the way of federal tax revenue.

Got that?

By way fo further helpful explication of his religious sensibilities, the Colonel helpfully points out that he thinks it is unbelievably cool to march through the streets and lash oneself with knives attached to chains. That is an indication of a very serious religion indeed and we certainly hope contestants don't stray too close to that sensitive topic. But it's only fair that we reveal our actual attitudinal and emotional weak points.

The Colonel further thinks the United States are pretty amazing, notwithstanding the destructive inroads of socialism, low-rent racial politics, feminism, betrayal of the Constitution by the Supreme Court, and a traitorous intellectual class unable to distinguish between its own home base (with defects) and sundry third world sewer systems (without much in the way of good points other than "authenticity" or flamingos).

No points are awardable and no money will be paid for any attacks on the Colonel based upon detailed knowledge of the Colonel's actual character defects or personal transgressions (numberless as the sands of the sea though they may be). The Colonel's actual personal merit, or lack thereof, is irrelevant. You must attempt to offend the Colonel by reference to his group characteristics or his being a descendant of other members of his group(s) who perpetrated some massacre, achieved intellectual and technological dominance over others, discovered Indiana, or committed other similar despicable acts.

Referring to the Colonel as "an offay, honkey descendant of slave masters" would qualify, although it would not result in payment to the submitter because we don't know what "offay" or "honkey" mean. We admit "descendant of slavemaster" stings some but we are still not offended by it.

Actually, any insult leveled at the Colonel will qualify, so long as it doesn't proceed from knowledge of the Colonel's actual sins.

The following are other examples of what would be qualifying, though losing entries. We will add to this list as contestants submit their entries:

• Americans are imperialist dogs.
• White people are lazy pigs.
• White people are all Crusaders at heart.
• Dead, white European-origin males are the scourge of humanity.

So, seek personal enrichment and please, please, leave comments to OFFEND THE COLONEL.

Police torture, judicial murder in China.

The Chinese have a delicious description of managing to have some necessary contact with bureaucracy and withdrawing safely: Escape from the mouth of the dragon.

Here's a fascinating story about a Chignese man who escaped -- eventually -- notwithstanding determined, multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional efforts to injure him mortally:

General problem:

The police and courts still rely mainly on pretrial confessions and perfunctory court proceedings to resolve criminal cases instead of the Western tradition of analyzing forensic evidence and determining guilt through contentious court trials. China's criminal laws forbid torture and require judges to weigh evidence beyond a suspect's confession. But lawyers and legal scholars say forced confessions remain endemic . . . .

Specifics:

Mr. Kahn, the source of this story, tells of the vicious treatment of an innocent man, Qin Yanhong, in Anyang, Henan Province. China. Next time you want a textbook story of arbitrary, inquisitional government at work, come back to this story.

• Mr. Qin was subjected to the "tiger stool."
• Mr. Qin was subjected to "taking a jet plane."
• Mr. Qin was subjected to "circling the pig."
• Mr. Qin's trial was closed to the public.
• His trial lasted less than one day, no witnesses called by prosecutor.
• Mr. Qin was forbidden to call his own witnesses.
• He was convicted on the basis of his "confession" alone.
• "Oral confessions" are insufficient grounds for conviction (Criminal Procedure Law).
• The Chinese constitution forbids use of torture to obtain confessions.
• In China there is no legal right to have a lawyer present during interrogation.
• This right would have absolutely protected Mr. Qin in this case.
• In China there is no legal right to remain silent.
• Mr. Qin was sentenced to death.
• He spent four years in jail till released only by sheer luck.
• He as paid only $35,000 in compensation ($4.21/hr for his trouble) but on condition he not talk to the media or ask higher authority for more money.

Incredibly, Mr. Shen Jun, the senior detective in charge of Mr. Qin's interrogation was promoted.

Who would have guessed there's such a shortage of trained cops in China that a committed, systematic torturer would have to be kept on and even

promoted. Someone must have sent out an APB with the word "decency" in it and caused half the cops in China to drop dead from laughing.

Mr. Qin was saved from death only by a retired soldier who went to the police and confessed to 18 murders, one of which was, clearly, the murder for which Mr. Qin had been convicted.

The police and judges who so viciously worked over Mr. Qin, far from immediately freeing him, set out to suppress the new evidence of exoneration and keep him on death row.

Authorities in the two cases involving Mr. Qin and the retired soldier agreed to prosecute the soldier for 17 murders instead of 18 and leave Mr. Qin's conviction intact.

Now that has to be some kind of a Guiness record, even in the annals of Chinese communist rule.

Consensus leader of teeny tiny minority of unelected, privileged claque.

Emphasis here is on the word "communist," which was (along with its sister form of fascism in Germany and Japanese militarism gangster psycho fascism) responsible for just about everything vile in the last century, until, that is, the hatching of Arafat, Khomeini, Hamas, Hezbollah, and other such forms of human lice.

In China's top-down political system, the police, prosecutors and judges respond mostly to incentives from above, [defense lawyer and former prosecutor] Mr. Li [Bin] said. They pay a much higher price for failing to maintain the appearance of social order than for torturing suspects, he said.

"The judicial system is set up to protect the authority of the government," he said. "It is not set up to protect the rights of suspects."

Mr. Qin had no right of appeal. Bottom line: the august legal system of the majestic Marxist-Leninist People's Republic of China boils down to being institutionalized arbitrariness in the hands of (1) predatory local cops and (2) "judges" with zero interest in the search for the truth even when it's a matter involving taking away a man's life.

It turns out that that seemingly innocuous term "the search for truth" is a vital part of the criminal justice system in any country, as well as of science, public policy, personal relations, and inner jihad. Anything that undermines that search, such as slavish devotion to the lies of multiculturalism, blocks off a part of reality from critical inquiry and the cockroaches of superstition, obscurantism, and political correctness will fill the void in the time it takes to say "religion of peace."

IST commented recently on the effrontery of the Saudi government in working to distribute Korans to violent members of the U.S. underclass. There it was clear that a certain Saudi charity was responsible for distributing these Korans to this audience. The Saudis later shut down this charity when they "discovered" that it was connected to al Qaeda. Bigggg surprise in Saudi land.

Now we have the secretary-general of the Saudi government's Muslim World League Koran Memorization Commission, Sheikh Abdallah Basfar, on Saudi TV giving the hard sell on the duty of all Muslims to contribute to jihad.

All the funds sent via known charities and organizations reach your Muslim brothers, Allah be praised. Undoubtedly, this aid is obligatory and not just recommended. This is the duty of every Muslim, based on the scholars' religious ruling that supporting our brothers in Palestine is obligatory. Therefore, material support is a duty.

Thus we have the Saudi government soliciting funds to but one of many "charities" with full awareness that the funds are going to support jihad, the indiscriminate-killing version not the hug-yourself-and-keep-a-diary version. The Saudis knew damn well where the contributions to Al-Haramain were going.

Chinese assassination policy.

Here's a choice snippet from a story about Chinese efforts to buy technology that would allow it to intercept U.S. satellite intelligence report transmissions. A Mr. Liu and a Mr. Zheng made off with $140 million intended for the purchase.

Not surprisingly, Chinese intelligence is searching for thse two men. Possible sanctions include killing the men AND their families:

China's intelligence service, the Ministry of State Security (MSS), offered a reward of $1 million for information about the location of the two Chinese men and the men's "entire families." The men were identified as Liu Zuoqing, a manager of a company in northern China, and Zheng Dequan, a son-in-law of Mr. Liu.

The [FBI] report also said China's spy agencies had told its agents in the United States to find the men and that Chinese intelligence was prepared to kill the men and their family members. ^[1]

"The part about killing the families is a nice touch, don't you think? It's true there are some "who won't be missed" but, darn heck, why put up with half measures?

Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Humaid, Saudi Arabia's former chief justice, in a 22-page Appendix to a Wahhabi version of the Koran.

This version of the Koran was distributed by an organization called Al-Haramain ("Riyadh-based charity suspected of funding al Qaeda") to an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 U.S. prisoners.

Conclusion: Author states unequivocally that jihad is about fighting infidels and forcing them to submit to Muslims and pay the tax levied on all kuffar swine. Date of authorship unknown but you can be sure that this official was of an extrememly high rank and that his views are 100% approved by the two-faced Saudi government that smiles at infidel Americans but actively recruits America's violent, low-life, criminal underclass and encourages it to convert to Islam and actively fight infidels till they willingly submit to Islam forever.

Do you suppose that this official Saudi policy was conceived and implemented as a favor to us?

While we're thinking of questions to ask ourselves, Where, dear Reader, do you personally intend to draw the line and decide that these people are died-in-the-wool enemies of yours who intend to kill you if necessary to get you to submit or cease resistance to Islamic overlords for you, your spouse, your children, and your community? Or does it still strike you as hypothetical and remote? Preaching murder and the extinguishment of your culture to violent prisoners in the penitentiary near you as no big deal, perhaps? In Lebanon, Christians represented 50-60% of the population prior to 1975; today this percentage has declined to 25-30%. Most importantly, their political influence has severely weakened. The Lebanese emigration ministry estimates the number of emigrants at five million, more than three and a half million of which are Lebanese Christians. In the past Lebanon was known to be a safe haven for persecuted individuals who were hunted because of their religious or intellectual beliefs. Today, however, it is driving out its own children because of the Arab infringement, the Palestinian foolishness and the Syrian occupation.

Well, it's not quite bare steel in the breeze just yet but it's one more important voice speaking out about what is, of late, as obvious as 20 grams of cocaine dumped in your IV bag.

Christianity, Hinduism, and virtually all other existent religions have proved to be compatible with the the modern age's superior virtues of freedom and plurality. Islam is steadfastly antagonistic to such progress. Therefore, those of us who can respect others whose beliefs diverge from our own are already unified against those who cannot. We should all start acting accordingly.^[1]

A large number of Americans and Europeans don't get it just yet. 9/11 went down the memory hole for all intents and purposes, just as did all the other outrages committed by Muslim fanatics.

The latter haven't quit and they have ambitious plans. Good people need to hunt them down like the mad dogs they are.

Dr. Sanity has an interesting post about a young woman who came home early from school to make a painful discovery about her mother and suddenly went blind:

We just posted about Jane Fonda's unerring ability to find the people and themes that are so beloved by the enemies of her own culture and country. Thirty-five years within which to examine her beliefs from the days of Vietnam, not to mention study the history of what happened in Vietnam and Cambodia, and the result is . . . the La Brea tar pits of unchanging worldviews.

Neither the reality of utter swine like Comrade Duch nearby, the former boss of Tuol Sleng prison^[2] in Cambodia nor the pitiless, daily murders of the Khmer Rouge -- mere drops in the oceans of left-wing conceit, slaughter, torture, and expropriation -- give her or the Left pause to consider

Churchill (that's Pete Churchill down at the feed store) said something like, "Living in a democracy is like being on a raft in the ocean. Your feet are wet a lot but you stay afloat." Zealots crave never-yet-attained perfection, however, and are aptly described in the Yiddish proverb, "Send a fool to close a window and he'll close all the windows in town." Take care of one of the deserving folks on that "little list" who "won't be missed," a la Gilbert and Sullivan, and pretty soon the whole $%#^@ country is permanently AWOL. How cool is THAT?!

Pol Pot, while in Paris in the early 1950s, with other Cambodian students, organized the group that was the forerunner of the Khmer Rouge. In a pamphlet he pledged someday "to institute a democracy 'pure as a diamond.'" Later, Pot and the other leaders of the Khmer Rouge wanted to establish "real socialism" in Cambodia.^[3]

How did that actually play out? How did the moral giants and seers manage in the implementation in their revolution of compassion? Well, other than the impoverishment of the entire nation and wholesale murder and torture, not bad!

Here's an account of first hand exposure to down and dirty revolution.

From the Publisher's Weekly review of Voices from S-21: Terror and History in Pol Pot's Secret Prison by David Chandler there is this about how some journalists discovered the prison after the Vietnamese invasion:

Drawn to the site [Tuol Sleng] by the smell of decomposing flesh, the men discovered the bodies of 50 recently murdered prisoners, an array of implements of torture and a vast abandoned archive of institutionally sanctioned torture and murder.^[4]

The Colonel, try though he might, simply cannot find in his dearest left wing friends the least impulse to anchor their political views in such stark realities.

Pol Pot set out on a mission to find democracy "pure as a diamond." (We'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that was some sort of a ball park, Cleveland, Ohio concept of "democracy" he entertained before his embrace of Communism.) Afterwards, he and his cohorts nevertheless strived to find "real" socialism, the genunine article, the real deal version.

In the process, the only pure thing they created was a pure hell.

Through most of that regime, Cham Navy, 35, lived with her grandmother after her parents were taken away and killed. She was forbidden from visiting the pond behind her grandmother’s house.

One day she sneaked out to the pond and found it full of bodies.^[5]

Jane Fonda wants the war in Iraq ended so that the money being spent their can be spent on New Orleans: total blindness to any salutary effect of killing Sunni thugs in Iraq.

Not beast.

Total fixation on a domestic failure, any domestic failure, with no sense of evil other than an exaggerated sense of evil in Bush and the Republicans and the lackeys of Halliburton.

The search for political and social perfection is an expensive and wasteful one. Human affairs simply will never be that perfect. But even with its imperfections, the U.S. is a country that anyone who spends more than a week away from it should be most grateful to return to.

That gratitude will never be found on the left, however. Barbara in Dr. Sanity's post may one day come to appreciate that even flaws in a loved one do not mean that that person is beneath contempt or lacking in love for her.

She will come to that realization directly, if she hasn't already. The Left will forever be trying not to gag when the National Anthem is played.

That said, the Colonel has just got to take note of Ms. Fonda's unerring, majestic, diurnal, Swiss-made, twice-a-day tidal consistency. What does she do but she chooses to go on a tour of the U.S. to do some anti-Bush grandstanding and chooses a certified dimwit as a her co-campaigner and co-gadfly. This is no other than Member of Parliament, George Galloway, described by our source as "a passionate supporter of anti-Western causes in the Arab world."

The Air Force should study her brain for clues on how to build a guidance system for its rockets that WILL NEVER LOSE SIGHT OF THE PLACE WHERE THEY ARE DESTINED BY GOD TO BLOW THEMSELVES UP.

You'd think that Ms. Fonda would factor into her political planning the lessons of past experience. A normal person would conclude that going to the country whose troops were then and there in the field against American troops (bad enough) plus sitting down in the gunner's chair of an AA gun emplaced to shoot down your own countrymen probably wouldn't do a lot for you in the court of public opinion. U.S. public opinion, anyway. Non-traitorous left wing U.S. public opinion, anyway.

Nope, like %$^#& gravity, she voluntarily seeks out a bozo who hates the West. You just have to admire the fact that a seemingly intelligent woman can be such a one-note ukelele for, what is it now . . . , 35 straight years and counting. You have to.

The Colonel always appreciated the observation during Cold War times that where the socialists, commies, and fellow travelers in the West were concerned, no promise of socialism would ever be remembered and no failing of capitalism would ever be forgotten.

"September 11 Remembered…in the Wake of the Egyptian Elections," Freedom for Egyptians, 9/11/05.

This thoughtful woman, Freedom for Egyptians, has written an exceptional post on the reservoir of good will in Egypt for things American and liberal values, as well as on the failing of U.S. policy.

It is refreshing to read intelligent commentary from the minds of people of good will in other countries and to perceive that they understand very well the benefits to humans that came from the political advances in the West.

The Wall Street Journal pointed out several years back that the desire for democracy in the hearts of the people in Tian An Men Square was entirely Chinese in its origin. No one from the West led the demonstrators to that place. Freedom for Egyptians herself reveals that she, an Egyptian, has an excellent grasp of the mechanics of democracy, the importance of press freedom, and the universal problem of thugs wanting to hold onto power at the expense of the majority of the people.

She writes "now we are threatened to fall victims for a merciless ideology that does not share any values of the accumulated legacy of humanity."

We all have a stake in that legacy and the greater tragedy is that this woman shows more appreciation of and understanding of that legacy than many in the West. The Colonel attests to his belief that few of his own countrymen have the slightest understanding of the original constitutional scheme of the United States, let alone an understanding of how THAT incredible legacy in this particular country was debased by political opportunists and citizens caring only to receive some portion of the monies flowing from the public coffers.

She further writes:

I find that many Muslims fail to question Islam’s shortcomings unlike Christianity and Judaism which were subjected to reasonable questioning. It is true that extremism does exit in every creed but not to the extent of blowing the self up in a children’s school bus while believing of going to paradise.

The contrast between the common sense views of this woman and the hysteria of the Mad Mujahadin threatened by loss of their privileged status takes one's breath away, inured as we are to year after year of jejune diatribes from the fanatics.

It is sad that, in the Colonel's view, this voice coming out of Egypt is such a rarity. It might be that the voices would be a great chorus if people could speak without fear of retribution in Egypt. • The concept of "occupier" as applied to Muslims is a nonstarter. Once Muslims take over someone else's lands Muslims become THE OWNERS. End of story. Only infidels are "occupiers."
• Muslims are majorly in favor of peace, especially if it can be preceded by lengthy periods of war.
• Muslims have not got a clue about the concept of "the other guy" as an entity above the level of "oxygen thief." Peace "on our terms" or "as laid down by Islam." You get the picture. Un . . . believable.^[1]
• All Muslim political or military operations of the utmost nobility require the wearing of a veil.
• The confused mental state of a convert to Islam is directly proportional to his willingness to wear a funny hat and a veil (with matching purse).

The Colonel wonders if this kind of life choice could have been avoided by a bigggg hug from mommy and telling the beloved child, "We love you and think that it's so cute that frustration over your inability to get laid has manifested itself in a desire to betray your culture, your nation, and your family, and to wear funny clothes."

Just a littttttle more love and all this could have been avoided.

America has been spared the awful losses that other nations have suffered throughout history. However, this wonderful exemption we've enjoyed seems to have bred a fatal inability to understand pure evil and to summon the will to crush it when revealed.

Today, therefore, there is no gnat bite that is not litigated or minor personal failing that isn't magnified into near conclusive proof of one's servitude to the Evil One. What luxury!

It's possibly a pricey luxury, however, and the price ultimately to be paid for fecklessness may be beyond all imagining.

The Fate of Africa -- not good.

Soapgun reports some his thoughts in reading The Fate of Africa, by Martin Meredith.

Africa is definitely what you would call "diverse" in the addled argot of the eek and shriek™ battalions. Enthusiastic Arab slavers and raiders of north and central Africa, Bushmen hunters, Masai cattleherders, and Zulu impi individually had more in common with people who go to trekkie conventions than each other. Shaka used to have his warriors trample thorns into the parade ground with their bare feet with what you might call "enthusiasm encouragers" circulating through the ranks to bash the brains out of those who were not getting with the program.

Now that, sports fans, is some serious diiiiii-VERS-ity.

Finger pointing for Africa's problems cycled through colonialism, then Marxist Lennonism, then kleptokolonelism. Maybe honest observers will say Africa's problem is that it has simply reverted to savagery (Darfur, Rwanda, Zimbabwe) and anarchy (South Africa?).

This is a job for the U.N.!

We've already seen that China doesn't give a fig about the well being of Africans so long as their strategic interests are protected.

If South Africa slides further into anarchy, and becomes a playground for the African National Congress to parcel out the wealth created during the years of white ascendancy, it could be a grim century for Africa - Islamic male panic at dilution of domestic hegemony, revival of slavery (U.N. to Darfur: "Take two aspirin."), AIDS, agricultural madness, aid dependency, superstition, magic, betrayal by elites, and Chinese maneuvering for who knows what.

A clear-eyed inside view of Egypt's dictatorship.

Every Egyptian apparently knew the results of the elections beforehand; I would say that 90% of the registered votes did not go to the polls [on 9/7/05]. Any Egyptian citizen can write long list for the violations committed since the so-called election process has started, that is summarized in one phrase; “my vote won’t make a difference”. The amendment of the article 76 of the constitution by the president after the May 25 Referendum to allow multiple presidential candidacy, uncovered the real intention and the nature of the dictatorship of Egypt.

May 25, the famous Referendum Day comes, and instead of listening to the people, the thugs of the Egyptian ministry of the interior beat and rape women in the streets of Cairo, ripping their clothes into shreds. This is the language our regime prefers to talk to us with. The incident of beating civilians with brutality occurred more than once since May 25 and until Election Day and only because Egyptians dared to freely express their opinion.

The Egyptian people had attempts to write their first constitution in 1880 and 1907.

It is worth mentioning here the illiteracy rate in Egypt at that time was over 90% which did not hamper them to think with dignity and love for our beloved Egypt. The 1919 Egyptian Revolution was the only revolution worldwide that produced a true liberal experience among revolutions in the 20th century. All peer revolutions were either socialist, communist…etc. The Egyptian constitution was written before the constitution of the country of the largest democracy in the 21st century that's India.

For the dream of freedom, I will continue to be vocal and outspoken about my rights and others. If the election game came to an end, then the battle has just started. Free-willed Egyptians will definitely win because they have a cause. Humans are not created to be slaves for power-thirst lunatics. We are born free.

Practical Sharia - X: summary execution blessed by religious authority.

Update on practical implementation of sharia.

Mufti, Sheikh Akrama Tzabari is the Mufti of Jerusalem. He issues a fatwa that authorizes the Neignboring Entity^[1] to execute 15 Arabs accused of working with Israel.

Here are some of the problems with this:

1. Mr. Tzabari lives in Israel but he purported to speak to a legal matter within the jurisdiction of the Neighboring Entity. Ergo, Islamic legal rulings are not constrained by international boundaries. Whose fatwa would control if an Egyptian mufti also decided to weigh in on the execution of the accused?
2. Everyone in the Neighboring Entity seems to think this guy is qualified to make decisions that permit the summary dispatch of the accused. Apparently attending the Muslim equivalent of Yale Divinity School or Whitewater Bible College is enough to issue death warrants. (Pat Robertson call Strike Headquarters.)
3. "Summary" is the operative word, as there apparently has been no involvement of an independent judiciary in the process of determining guilt. Execution is apparently just an afterthought.
4. The mufti made a life-or-death decision based on no discernible direct involvement in the cases of the accused, but authorized death . . . death, mind you . . . on the mere fact of the Neighboring Entity's decision to arrest the 15. "Executive action" to die for.
5. Legal representation for the accused is apparently not an option for the accused.
6. The Neighboring Entity is 100% clueless about the rule of law and is wedded to the sharia that was state of the art law in the seventh century and possibly, just possibly, a slight improvement over then-extant truly primitive tribal law.^[2]

Lest the above strike you as merely academic concerns consider the following instances of extrajudicial murder:

Israel Police Atty. Rachel Edelsberg informed Hadari that Israeli government sources had turned to the PA on this matter, and that the PA promised not to use the religious ruling issued by the Mufti. The ruling still stands, however. The 15 are still alive, but executions are invariably carried out very suddenly - and informally - in the PA.

In 2004, several such executions were carried out, among them: On July 2, 2004, Fatah terrorists murdered, execution-style, Muhammad Rafiq Abdel Razek, a resident of the Jenin area, before a cheering crowd. Around the same time, a PA policeman threw a hand grenade into the jail cell of an accused Israeli agent in Gaza, injuring seven suspected Israeli agents. In February of 2004, PA taxi driver Tahseen Abu Arkub, 50, was killed, and a month earlier, the same fate met a 27-year-old resident of Shechem (Nablus).^[3]

Note the direct involvement -- inside the jail -- of a Neighboring Entity policeman.

Note too the cheering crowd at the Fatah murder of a man by Fatah terrorists. As the Germans loved Hitler in the 30s, the Arabs love their lawless terrorist.

Again we say the burden of proof has shifted inexorably to Muslims to prove that they have an understanding of civil liberties and human rights and that lose Kanonen in their midst are disgraced and neutralized.

Great moments in scurrilous politics - III: Robertson-Chavez.

John Gibson at Fox News has nifty point about the call for Hugo Chavez's assassination by Emmisary-of-Satan Pat Robertson.

The leftists in the Democrat Party and media couldn't get enough of that, could they? Mr. Gibson correctly points out that there isn't a sane person who wouldn't cheerfully have 1,900 live American soldiers back in exchange for one dead S. Hussein. Clearly a variant on the emminently moral conclusion that it would have been a Good Thing to have assassinated Hitler in 1932.

He also takes Mr. Robertson to task on the issue of the appropriateness of a relgious leader's advocating political action other than apple pie get-out-the-vote campaigns. That's the real issue and it's more than fair to delve into the ramifications of that. (The Colonel's view is that church leaders in the U.S. are not constitutionally mandated to limit their policy recommendations to the curse of people talking in church or UPS truck drivers' double parking in front of Starbucks.)

So George Stephanopoulos (search) in 1997 — just after he left the Clinton White House as a close Clinton advisor — wrote in a Newsweek article that Clinton was going to have to think about assassinating Saddam Hussein.

Where was the outrage?

It then absolutely strips bare the stock response to terrorist incidents of the Muslim apologists that the acts of terrorists are not supported by rank and file Muslims who practice a ROP:

Then consider the reaction of the broader Muslim community to Beslan. There were some tepid condemnations, to be sure, mixed in with the apathy, but not the sort of outrage that was seen when French schools banned headscarves or when there were false rumors about a Guantanamo guard dropping a Qur’an!^[1]

This one passage lays it out. It's all b*t about moderates v. jihadis. When the World Trade Center towers were struck the Muslim community world wide was ecstatic and danced in the streets. When "routine" brutalities are perpetrated, well, what's to get excited about? It's just our boys at it again.

So help me God, the time has passed so long ago that Westerners needed to tread slightly lest they unfairly step on Muslim sensibilities. Today, now, for the foreseeable future, ALL Muslims bear the burden of proof on first making their case why a particular outrage was not routine Muslim doctrine in operation.

That's especially true any place in the non-Muslim, non-Arab, non-Persian world. How it is that Muslims got there in any numbers is frankly beyond the Colonel's powers of imagination. While they're there -- for now -- they need to ratchet up the apologetics and go the extra mile, then the extra mile again, to prove how it is that Muslims can live in harmony with kuffar in the latter's own country and be willing to accept that the sharia is and always will be an absolute nullity in their new homes.

The possibility of forced repatriation of The Indigestibles must soon be discussed in some European countries in light of the incontrovertible evidence^[2][3][4] that some Muslims have in some cases become indigestible, unassimilable lumps in societies that generously and kindly held out a welcoming hand to them.

China: prosperous . . . arming . . . still commies.

"What I think is disconcerting is the willingness of China to not only help but to defend rogue regimes," said Princeton Lyman, who served as ambassador to both Nigeria and South Africa in the Reagan, Georgse H.W. Bush and Clinton administrations.

"China has in effect inhibited the U.N. from imposing sanctions on Sudan, and in Zimbabwe is helping to bail out a regime that is repressive and is destroying the country," Lyman said.^[1]

Anyone who maintains that China is a benign presence in the world bears a heavy responsibility to posterity to be dead right. The above tells us a lot about China's vision of the good and the beautiful and its indifference to basic decency (intentions, morals). The one below tells us about capability to realize its malevolent dreams (means).

China . . . is building up its military for the long-term goal of projecting its power well beyond Taiwan . . . .^[2]

These points bear thinking about.

For that matter, why are we falling over ourselves to trade with and build up China? Shirley, there are other countries that have lesser determination to be a strategic competitor of the U.S. Like:

• Thailand
• Malaysia
• Philippines
• Australia
• Costa Rica
• Mexico
• Chile
• Brazil?

That said, wouldn't it be to our advantage to foster a much friendlier relationship with Russia? Don't we have interests that are more similar than not? We ought to be ecstatic about Pres. Putin's determination to sit on the Chechnyans and the Central Asian nations, as Russian resolve will ensure that Wahhabism does not spread north and east out of the Middle East. Development of Russian oil and protection of its oil pipelines will strengthen Russia and weaken the Saudis and Iranians.

Similarly, it is in the interest of the U.S. that China be prevented from discovering, as it did with Tibet, that suddenly Eastern Russia was actually Chinese all along. Remember how the Chinese suddenly remembered all that uranium of theirs that was under Tibet? (In contrast to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the Chinese really did want to take over Tibet raw materials and steal them from the Tibets out-bloody-right. Now reread the second quotation above.)

The idea that American business had shipped American scrap iron to Japan prior to Pearl Harbor was seen as madness after the fact. In what important respects is our present approach unnaturally favoring China different from that pre-war policy?

Well?

Are we seeing here the same kind of amoral pursuit of profit over national interest that made the old saw about capitalists selling the communists the rope with which to hang them so precisely accurate?

Whatever "them" it is who effectively rule the United States -- and "neocon" isn't even close to being a useful term to identify them -- they doubtless have factored in very little of the long- or short-term national interest in building up China, just as they have ignored the interests of the American people in utterly failing to stop illegal immigration.

Didn't Wal Mart at one point hold itself out as peddling American-made products? Now it's a marketing arm of the Central Committe in Beijing. Anything to worry about here? Shouldn't the policy rule be, "Adopt the most efficient method of getting goods and services to Americans that is consistent with national survival"?

Only fools invite strangers to take up permanent residence in their living rooms and only fools and traitors enrich and empower obvious enemies. But this truth doesn't phase any of the resident geniuses encamped along the Potomac.

While the Colonel would rather watch cartoons than think about foreign policy and his views can sometimes lack a certain sophistication, the truth remains that a quorum of regulars down at Hooters could probably come up with a foreign policy that in its broad outlines (wow is that a good pun, or what?) rivals the excellent product emanating in polysyllabic, mellifluous and refined tones from Foggy Bottom.

Sometimes drunks at AA meetings will recount a tale of such ghastly personal destruction as to render the audience fairly helpless with laughter. And at the end of the tale, the speaker will always state, "And my best thinking got me there."

We are paying a lot of highly educated people who would never be caught dead at Hooters or a Super8 Motel (two staples of the Colonel's existence) to devise really, really sophisticated policies that advance the national interests of the people of the United States. Islam's Tiny Minority.

The true minority in Islam are those who categorically reject intolerance and jihad. This is because hatred of and war against the infidel are core Islamic principles.
